My responsibilities:

The BI Developer (Backend) at ALDI designs, builds, and maintains robust, scalable data pipelines and backend analytics components that transform raw data into trusted, well-modelled, and high-quality datasets. Enables downstream reporting, dashboards, and analytical use cases by partnering with product teams, data owners, and stakeholders to ensure accurate, performant, and well-documented data products.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines (batch/near-real-time) to support reporting and analytics
  • Develop and optimise ETL (Extract Transform Load) jobs and data transformations
  • Model data for analytics (e.g., dimensional/relational models) and support consistent metrics definitions
  • Develop and maintain reporting assets (dashboards, scheduled reports, KPI definitions)
  • Write production-quality SQL and implement performance improvements (query tuning, indexing/partitioning strategies where applicable)
  • Ensure data quality through validation checks, anomaly detection (as applicable), and reconciliations
  • Provide monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting for pipeline/report failures

  • Support governance needs: permissions, dataset certification workflows (if applicable), and auditability

The knowledge I own:

  • Strong SQL (joins/aggregations/window functions, data integrity and performance awareness)
  • Experience building data pipelines using ETL patterns (or equivalent orchestration)
  • Proficiency with Python or R
  • Familiarity with cloud based data solutions (Databricks, Snowflake, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD concepts and automated deployment workflows

  • Production engineering mindset: monitoring, incident response, and maintainable code/process
  • Analytical and structured approach to work
  • Passion for delivering high-quality user experiences
  • Ability to work independently while being a strong team player
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken)
  • Understanding of Agile practices and iterative development processes is a plus
